Why You Should See a Chiropractor Immediately After a Car Accident

woman makes phone call after wreckWhether you were involved in a low-speed fender bender or a high impact collision, your body sustains damage. Many think if the vehicle has little to no damage, their body is okay. That’s not necessarily the case, hence why it’s critical to seek care as soon as possible.

Same-Day Appointments & Phone Triage

At Dr. Lichter and Associates, we want to be sure to identify any and all problems right away. Spine and joint injuries begin healing immediately following trauma no different than how skin begins to scab following a cut. Much like you wouldn’t delay applying stitches to an open wound, the best time for examination and treatment of orthopedic injuries is immediately after the injury.

Severe injuries are rare following car crashes. In fact, most of the injuries that occur can be safely examined OUTSIDE of the Emergency Department. So how do you know when to go to the Emergency Room?

Here are some common reasons to go to the Emergency Department (this list is not inclusive- if you are unsure, call us right away or present to the nearest emergency department):

  • Uncontrolled bleeding
  • Prolonged loss of consciousness
  • The ability to think, speak, or move your limbs worsening over minutes/hours
  • Broken Bones
  • Dislocated joints
  • Signs of a heart attack, stroke, or seizures (convulsions, extremely high blood pressure, speech/swallowing issues, etc)
  • Any other condition that you feel may be immediately dangerous to life or limb

If you have pain that is not related to the above conditions, call us immediately after documenting the crash with photos, filing a police report, and exchanging insurance information at the scene of the crash.

If you have a crash outside of business hours, Dr. Banks has a dedicated hotline that is monitored 24/7 for your convenience:

Gentle Care

People often first learn about chiropractic care after a serious car crash. Whether their attorney sends them, or they research in hopes of finding answers and assistance, they may feel anxious about the unknown and fear getting “cracked.”

“Everyone should know that chiropractic care following trauma, like that received in car crashes, is very different than maintenance care. We do not start out with techniques that involve lots of clicking or popping. Our first goal is to get you out of pain ASAP and gradually strengthen your body over time.”

Offering an Array of Modalities

At Dr. Lichter and Associates, , we use a variety of modalities allowing us to treat a patient’s condition even without hands-on adjusting. These include:

A Focus on Soft Tissue Injuries

Our doctors focus on addressing soft tissue, which includes muscles, ligaments, joints, joint capsules, discs, and nerve roots. Those are the structures that are frequently the source of pain in whiplash-type traumas.

It’s important to understand we don’t treat broken bones. When patients require the services of a surgeon or orthopedist, our chiropractors will refer out to trusted specialists.
